Darkroom series
Artwork Series by Saverio Tonoli, Germany
The "Darkroom series" investigate the painting power of artificial and natural light, the water's behaviour, the reflections through transparent objects and the colourful properties of chemical reactions. I like to think that these images trace, through interferences and manipulations, the light conditions in my studio in Berlin.
The "Darkroom series" was developed between 2010 and 2011, merging as much as possible photography and painting by radicalising the photographic techniques in the darkroom. Most of machines have been manipulated, like the enlarger, the lenses and the paper’s surface in order to make extreme experiments possible with the light. Also, new chemicals have been introduced, or altered, in the classical darkroom "baths".
The analog images has been then digitalised to create small editions, opening the possibility to experiment with new printing techniques.
