About Koi II green purple

A colourful silk twill scarf featuring nine different Koi varieties, in a versatile 100cm x 100cm format. Italian silk twill with fringed edges.

Another colourway of the bestselling ‘Koi II’ silk twill scarf. The light soft green and deep purple colours brighten the face and add extra colour, creating a more ‘summery’ feel than the original on dark blue background. (Summer is also a state of mind, of course 🙂)

The deep colours of the print go through the beautiful twill fabric are almost identical on both sides of the scarf. The many colours make it easy to combine, and the fringed edges add an informal elegance.

The colours added for the scarf design are the actual colours of the koi breeds. They are Sanke, Kigoi, Asagi, Tancho, Kumonryu, Matsuba, Utsuri, Goromo and Soragoi.

When you wear it, you can choose which colours you want to feature more prominently, as every corner has a different colour combination. The colour palette is vibrant but the colours still have a softness to them, as not to overpower the face.

The scarf is printed in England onto 100% Italian silk twill, a classic scarf fabric with a subtle sheen. It has a satisfying weight and drapes beautifully, and the artwork shows exceptionally well on this fabric. Silk is a naturally sturdy material, and in this quality a scarf will last.

CARE
Dry clean.
Silk and wool are protein fibres which naturally repel dirt and hardly take on any smells, so they don't need to be cleaned often.
Steaming the scarf works wonders – it removes all wrinkles and also 'desinfects' it (removing potential smells and killing microorganisms), and it usually ends up looking like fresh from the cleaners. For this you can use a garment steamer or simply hold it approximately 2ft / 70cm over a boiling kettle for a few seconds (don't scold yourself in the process :)
If it needs a clean, dry cleaning is recommended.
Lukewarm water and mild silk/wool detergent would not damage the print, but for the feel of the silk or wool it's still better and safer to dry clean it.

About Arlette Ess

Arlette Ess is a visual artist specialised in drawing. Her intricate work creates a sense of immersion and wonder, combining the beauty of Nature with the imagery of our inner worlds. She trained with Alexander McQueen and is one of the artists contributing to the iconic scarves collections by Hermès Paris.

Through her personal and commissioned work, she shares her love for the natural world, and a desire to distil its magical and mysterious essence.

The drawings have a focus on organic textures and their intrinsic patterns, assembled as mesmerising allovers or harmonious compositions. The content and subject matter draws from observation of nature, as well as from our collective cultural history, a part of our identity we share through image and myth. The work is fundamentally playing with our need to find meaning in a mysterious and multifaceted reality.

Arlette’s signature fur prints are drawn in pen and ink, resulting in a combination of figurative and textural. These mesmerisingly intricate designs often simultaneously embody a kind of minimalism, creating a fusion between opulence and simplicity.

Her business embraces a ‘buy less, buy better’ ethos, respecting resources and people. All products are manufactured in Europe using the best possible materials and processes, aiming for timelessness and substance in all aspects. The fashion line embodies the ‘slow fashion’ concept, with timeless pieces created for individuals who know what’s for them.

Arlette has a degree from University of the Arts London, Camberwell College of Arts (BA Hons Graphics) and has exhibited in various art shows, design festivals and galleries in Europe (London, Paris, Berlin, Dresden, Lisbon, Kortrjik) and the far east (Tokyo, Taipei, Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou). Originally from Switzerland, she has a previous background in fashion, having worked internationally as a model for many years. After a stint of print design at Alexander McQueen, Arlette decided to start her own label whilst continuing to work on commissions, collaborations and personal projects. In 2020, she was one of the winners of the ‘Grand Prix du Carré’ competition by Hermès Paris, and is now one of the artists contributing to the scarves line.
