Paweł Mendrek is an interdisciplinary visual artist, filmmaker, educator, and creative producer with a multilayered artistic practice. His work spans drawing, photography, collage, publishing projects, collective actions, set design, and experiments with moving images, all characterized by innovative intermedia and film production strategies. A scholarship recipient from the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, Prague Film School, and completed creative production studies at the Polish National Film, TV, and Theatre School in Łódź, providing him with a robust foundation in visual arts and film. His extensive experience enables him to engage in projects that explore the image as an art form across various perceptual levels. Currently, in collaboration with screenwriter Marek Mardosewicz, he is developing an experimental feature film project titled Home is Whenever I’m With You. As an Associate Professor of Experimental Film and Visual Narrative at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, he shares his expertise with young artists. Additionally, as Head of the Department of Intermedia and Set Design, he actively fosters international cooperation through the Parallax Network Group, contributing to innovative educational practices in film and visual art.

Paweł Mendrek has created several experimental short films, including Solaris, which has circulated in gallery exhibitions, produced by KulturAXEwien, and the short project Just a Little Game, made in collaboration with Ewa Zasada as part of the Prague Film School’s educational program. He also served as creative producer for Never Ending Sound, directed by Daniel Beltran—a short dramatic feature co-produced by Colombia, Germany, and Poland. In 2024, the film was selected for various festivals, including the Festival de Cine de Alicante, Apatzingán International Film Festival, Festimatge de Calella, and Filmserè Film Festival Hospitalet, following previous recognition in 2023 at the Alicante International Film Festival, Under Our Skin International Film Festival, and Ficcho Choco International Film Festival. As a visual artist, he has exhibited his works at group exhibitions, including at the Museum of Applied Arts and Künstlerhaus in Vienna, the Museum of Art in Taiwan, the Siena Art Institute in Italy, Kronika Gallery in Bytom, BWA Gallery in Krakow and Bielsko-Biała, and Mill&Short Gallery in San Francisco. His work has been nominated for various artistic awards, such as the Grand Prix at the International Digital Graphics Biennale in Gdynia, the Grand Award of the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, the Strabag Art Award, and recently, he was shortlisted for the First Rector of the University of Łódź, Prof. Tadeusz Kotarbiński Prize, for his distinguished scholarly work in the humanities: On Care. A Journey into the Relational Nature of Artists’ Residencies, a research and publication project.
